Jackless Flag of New Zealand

The design was proposed by Tiago Costa and submitted to the New Zealand Flag Consideration Project design competition in 2015. It is based on the current Flag of New Zealand and it consists mainly on the removal or deletion of the Union Jack. Following Mies Van Der Rohe’s motto “less is more” the new flag would have less elements creating less visual clutter by removing the superfluous, in this specific case the Union Jack. The new flag would have only the essential elements that represent a post-colonial and independent country, New Zealand.
