Huashan 2.0 Cultural Building and Concert Hall

Bio-Architecture Formosana + Tiago Costa.

It was Tiago’s utmost pleasure to have accepted an invitation to enter an architecture competition and design alongside with one of Taiwan's biggest and best architecture studios. The challenge was to design a cultural building consisting of 3 concert halls, art galleries, offices, commercial spaces, amongst others, covering a total area of 28000m2 (as a size reference, Rem Koolhaas’ Casa da Música covers a total area of 22000m2), with a budget of 41.5 million euros and having as client the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan. The site was an unused part of one of the most important and vibrant cultural centers in Taiwan, the Huashan 1914 Creative Park, which is housed in an old Japanese sake factory built during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan.

They are delighted to announce that they have won the competition in March 2021, that gladly they still have a lot of work ahead of them and that the construction of the building is scheduled to start in April 2023.
